“Young Woman and The Sea” REVIEW

One woman’s determination to defy all sense of logic is taking the big screen by force this weekend. It wasn’t enough to overcome measles as a kid, now Trudy is set to conquer the English Channel from France to English. All she has to do is “Swim Trudy Swim”.

Disney’s Young Woman and The Sea stars Last Jedi’s Daisy Ridley in by far one of the most inspirational movies yet. Ridley leaves it all on the field or ocean as she remarkably portrays the feisty, determined Trudy whose sole ambition is to swim. When she realizes she can in fact win at a “boy’s” sport, she is determined to go all the way and prove that girls do have what it takes. Ridley definitely encompasses that especially considering her Star Wars day as being the first and next Jedi after Luke Skywalker in order to take down Kylo Ren. Ridley uses that same determination in this Sea biopic to prove she can do it even when all seem to doubt her.

Based on a true story of the first ever woman from 1926 to tackle the impossible, the movie does an exceptional job of bringing it to the screen. Though I’m sure there were a few liberties taken from the original, over all the film does the story justice. It creates a real life hero that all boys and girls will look up to especially in the world of swimming and sports.

There are quite of bit of stunning imagery were we fully dive deep into the journey that Trudy tackled and on the big screen. We see the full on imagery and emerging colors to cause you to fill and experience everything.

At 2 hour 9 minute run time, Young Woman and the Sea came out in theaters on a light weekend at the box office, May 31st 2024. That being said, it’s definitely encouraged to see it on the big screen while it is playing in limited theaters near you.
