“Wonka” REVIEW

Timothee Chalamet is the infamous younger version of Willy Wonka. In the latest version, we see a chocalatier dreamer trying to make it in the big city. The only problem is the chocalate cartels that run everything. The question is does Willy have what it takes to let his dream come true as he creates the best chocolate in the world?

At an hour 54 minute runtime, Wonka contains everything that the original held dearly too and Chalamet does an exceptional job of portraying the man who ultimately made Wonka. That is the late great Gene Wilder. One can definitely see where Chalamet clearly studied up on Wilder’s every quirk that made him the one and only Wonka.

Additionally Hugh Grant does an exceptional job of portraying the famous Oompa Lompa’s. Grant did everything short of singing the infamous song that explains everything and he did so with such easy and charm that made us ultimately invested in the beloved character.

Wonka also brought light to the inspiration behind the dream, from his mother’s love of chocolate making and her “secret” behind it. Sally Hawkins does an exceptional job of capturing the nurturing mother figure that fuels Willy’s drive for success.

Finally the film stars a few other actors including Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key and Rowan Atkinson, all of who bring out the fun, as well as the dangerousness that Wonka went through along the rode to become the greatest candy maker.

Filled with high energy songs and memorable lines, Wonka is sure to draw the curious chocolate lover inside. It will cause those who know the orginal to look carefully for the similarities that makes the original a classic hit for old and young crowds alike, The film comes out in theaters Dec.15 and is currently playing in one near you.
