Asha has just one wish to become apprentice to the king, a powerful sorcerer who has the power to grant wishes. In doing this, she hopes to have her family’s wishes returned and granted. The only thing is the so called king isn’t who he says he is, which leaves Asha with a bigger wish to bring hope back to the Mediterranean city of Rosa. Fortunately she has a little help from the most powerful thing one can wish on, the famous star.
It’s a race against time and power as Asha seeks to free the wishes before the King destroys them for his own benefit and it shows the true power lies not only in the stars but the ones who hold the wishes.
Wish is truly a tale that is one hundred years in the making. It carries the beloved tale that all Disney films hold true to, that is the true and ultimately power of a wish. The film highlights the story of the star that has been in nearly every Disney film from the beginning and because of that, one might look clever nods to those classic films; films including Snow White, Cinderella, Bambi and more. It becomes clear as the film goes on as to who Asha is as the once and gentle fairy godmother, who just wants to look out for the well being for others. It’s a typical trait of such an iconic role model.
The film does star a list of voice actors including West Side Story‘s Ariana De Bose as Asha, Into The Woods‘ Chris Pine as the evil Magnifico and A Knight’s Tale‘s Alan Tudyk as Valentino. All of which would not make the film what is truly is meant to be; a tale as old as the story itself, with that hope that we all long for in something as simple as a Wish.
Wish came out in theaters Thanksgiving weekend and is currently showing in one near your.
