“Wild Hearts” Review

An oldie but goodie has just landed on Disney Plus and is a must see as it combines romance with horses in the ’91 film, “Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken”.    The 90’s film is based in a small town as an orphan girl discovers her love for Horse diving after seeing it at a fair.  With the rush of jumping on top of her horse’s back and into a pool of water, Sonora finds relief especially after being turned over to child services by her Aunt who is unable to care for both her and her brother.

“Wild Horses Can’t Be Broken” is the traditional feel-good romance flick that the 90’s were particularly known for.  Though it didn’t get rave recognition when it first came out, it’s still one to be considered as Disney Plus now has it streaming on its media platform.  The film stars a few relative knowns including Gabrielle Anwar as the daredevil, Sonora.  One might remember Anwar from the last season of Once Upon A Time as Victoria Belfrey.  All in all, Anwar has come a long way from her role in “Wild Hearts” as she holds the same passion and dedication to her craft as she does in her later role in Once Upon a Time.  She also handles disappointment and determination with flawlessness as in this movie, Anwar doesn’t let one accident affect her from continuing her daredevil ways on the horse.

Additionally, the other relative known actor is “Sixteen Candles’” star Michael Schoeffling, as Al Carver, who plays opposite Anwar as friends who develop into a romantic love tied to the determination of wanting to succeed at horse diving even when all odds are against Sonora.  Ultimately the chemistry between the two of them are spot on and even when Sonora tries to push Al away, it is the love and determination that strengthens Sonora’s willingness to not let her disability keep her from doing what she loves to do.

All in all, “Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken” is a movie for all ages to enjoy as it beautifully combines romance with the love of horses in a way that will leave you breathless to the very end as you anticipate what is to happen next.   At roughly 90 minutes runtime, the feel-good movie is currently streaming only on Disney Plus with an active subscription.
