On August 8th and 9th, the 54th annual Watermelon Festival hosted by the Sunland Tujunga Lions Club returned to the San Fernando Valley for the first time at the Hanson Dam Soccer Complex. As previously reported, the festival hosted free entertainment for the expanded run as the festival lasted from 10 am to 10 pm for the today weekend in August and hundreds of residents came out to enjoy the sights, smells and tastes of the beloved fruit.
Over 50 years of watermelon at the yearly festival, after a short year hiatus, the festival has returned for the first time in Pacioma, Ca.
The festival included of course free watermelon all day long from 10 to 10 on the second weekend in August.
And Watermelon designs were included in the crafting area.
Seed spitting contests and more all day long enticed kids.
And of course, kids could get their faces painted as a human watermelon.
