“Vengeance” Review

The latest Focus Features film Vengeance is surprising more entertaining than previous Focus Feature films tend to me. What’s more is its a first for debut director BJ Novak, who is best known for his portrayal of Ryan Howard in the hit show, The Office.

This time Novak stars in the film, Vengeance which also directed by him. Novak portrays a radio host who manages to get invited to the funeral of a girl whom he barely knows. What interesting is the girl’s family is lead to believe that he and their daughter are way closer then they really are. That alone as well as the suspicion of her brother as to the real cause of her death leads the journalist to pursuit the “story” in hope to bring justice and give satisfaction to the grieving family. The question is does he have enough to truly do this and if the truth is found will it truly bring justice or cause the Texas’ authorities to do what they do best and twist the truth into their own version of what really happened to Adeline.

All in all, Vengeance is a surprise from the first plot twist right on down the the shocking revelation which Novak must decide just how far to take his story. The cast also includes Spiderman: Homecoming’s Isabella Amara and DescendantsDove Cameron as the grieving sisters as well as comical genius Ashton Kutcher who does nothing better than portray the bad guy that we all know did it even before we know what he did.

Overall the entire cast did a great job for what they had to portray. That being said, while it’s not necessary a Hollywood blockbuster of sorts. It is certainly one to entertain you and give you a few laughs while trying to get the the story at heart. It’s definitely worth giving a look as the film came out in theaters July 29 and is currently playing in one near you.
