“Together” Review

Bleecker Street brings one of the first of its kind films centered around the Covid Pandemic that rocked the World last year and shut down everything for more than a year.

Together” focuses on one family living in the UK as they learn to live and love again by being forced together. A very small cast which included James McAvoy (Split), Sharon Horgan (Disenchanted) and a young actor named Samuel Logan in his first full length film. To start with the newest and youngest, Logan, though he had no lines, his expression throughout the film made audiences invested in this struggling couple who is trying to cope with everything. It was interesting to see him pop out of nowhere as ‘mommy’ and ‘daddy’ went from arguing to talking about their insane love that began to blossom again in just 12 short months.

Similarly the chemistry between McAvoy and Horgan was intense as they went virtually the entire 90 minutes of the film, breaking the third wall and talking more at the audience than each other. They both have a knack for merging the to frames together. It flowed seamlessly from camera to actor as they had an uncanny relationship that too had the audience rooting for them to get back together.

Finally, for an R rated movie, the film really wasn’t all that unbearable to watch. The only thing that made it worthy of the high rating was the slight sex talk that began to emerge as the two came to realize their love for one another. That being said, view discretion can be encouraged especially for the younger ears in an effort to protect their innocence.

“Together” came out in theaters August 27th and is currently playing in a theater near you.
