“Theater Camp” REVIEW

It is messy, it is unorganized and most times it is chaos, but at the heart of it all, is a message about the lasting bonds that nearly every kid gets from a camping experience. That and of course putting on a great show for the love of theater.

Theater Camp is definitely a fitting example of this and more as actors including Dear Evan Hansen’s Ben Platt and Booksmart’s Molly Gordon band together with 22 Jump Street’s Jimmy Tatro as they try to save the founder’s beloved camp. Through laughs and humor, they realize the true saving grace is in the stellar performance that the kid’s have been practicing all summer in honor of their beloved founder who is suddenly in a coma.

The biggest question will be can they do enough to save camp and put on one great show.

At roughly an hour and a half run time, Theater Camp will have you laughing throughout that the punny dialogue and clever auditions as kids venture in all aspects of theater, including, Music, dialogue, dance, costumes and more. Additionally the original songs, were written by most of the main cast as well as directed by Gordon and Nick Lieberman.

All in all, it is truly a unique story that one who loves theater will instantly marvel at the creativity that the cast shows throughout. Theater Camp came out in theaters July 14 and is currently playing in a limited capacity.
