It’s a typical M. Night Shyamalan produced movie, where nothing is as it seems and the most common denominator will surprise every one at the end.
The Watchers stars Dakota Fanning, a lost girl named Mina with secrets as she gets trapped in the woods. She finds safety in the company of three strangers who all have the similar motivation, stay alive and follow the rules. The problem is Mina was never a rule follower which leads to a revelation that helps them escape. The question is are they really safe or did they bring something with them that was just as dangerous?
All in all, Fanning has an exceptional way of capturing audiences sympathy. She has definitely came along way from her Twilight days, though still the same girl, just more mature and able to handle the horror genre in a way that brings new meaning to suspense. Similarly, she is joined by Barbarian’s Georgina Campbell, who equally adds suspense to a made up reality.
Finally Tarot’s Owen Forere rounds out the cast as she carries the same mystery as her Tarot days. In the end, The Watchers leaves you with the same feeling as Shyamalan’s earlier film Sixth Sense, especially through Forere’s performance. She has a good sense in making herself seem like a mindless victim up until the stunning climax when truths are revealed.
The Watchers, based on the book by A.M Stine, will have everyone on the edge of their seats, There is no telling exactly what will happen next which in turn will leave everyone wide eyed and amazed by the final scene.
The film came out in theaters to a Thursday crowd on June 6th 2024 and is currently playing in one near you.
