The Truth behind “Snake Eyes”

Henry Golding mets Snake Eyes in the latest G-I Joe film based on the popular hasbro toy. The new film is most definitely an origin story as it introduces all to the character of Storm Shadow as we learn just how he gets his name.

Snake Eyes starts out with a young boy who watches his father killed by an assassin whom he soon dedicates his life to hunting down and killing in the name of justice. Snake eyes eventually joins a group named Cobra as he discovers the painful secret of this power group. Now it is up to him to find his own team of heroes in order to go up against them in the name of justice. This is where Snake eyes meets his soon to be arch nemesis/ Tommy aka Storm Shadow as the two of them team up to take down the bad guy.

At 2 hour and 1 minute run time, Snake Eyes introduces a new element to the G.I Joe World as Snake eyes origins combines a little karate and ninja skills as his fighting tactics are a pleasant surprise. Golding as well as Andrew Koji (Tommy/Storm Trooper both display exceptional moves that is stunning to the audience as they both are able to carry themselves throughout the fight scenes. A great casting choice to say the least.

Due to its Ninja vibe, the film does include a wide range of Asian actors which fits nice with the story line. Those actors include Haruka Abe as Akiko, Tekehiro Hira as Kenta and Iko Uwais as Hard Master who all act as exceptional support behind Snake eyes and Tommy/ Storm Shadow.

The film came out in theaters July 22, 2021 and though it may not be as strong as its past films, that being said, its origin is still a story that one must see to fully understand especially as the franchise is expected to continue with these characters. Snake Eyes is currently playing in a theater near you.
