“The Substance” REVIEW

Elisabeth Sparkle once had it all, the looks, the fame and the love of her as a whole, but as she ages she realized that the industry she is living in wants someone younger to replace her. This is when she is given the opportunity of a life to make her life good once again, but the question is at what cost?

The Substance is a horror suspense about how women look at themselves and the damage they inflict, all in the name of youth and beauty. The film stars Demi Moore who is nothing short of spectacular as she goes from beautiful to monster all by way of cell replication. Her younger counterpart played by Margaret Qualley, equally does a great job especially as personafying that monster that Elizabeth becomes. In the end though, they both most come to terms with one true fact, they both are just one.

Lastly Dennis Quaid stars as the beauty obsessed boss that inevitably turns the older Elisabeth into the obsession that ultimately is her demise. Quaid, ultimately has a sincere knack for being the one person on screen that we ultimately want to despise. His facial expressions, similar to his role in The Intruder, are spot on especially with conversing with by Elisabeth and “Sue”.

All in all, The Substance which came to theaters mid September, is a intriguing film that will have everyone. questioning the ultimate price of beauty. Is currently playing in a theater near you.
