Who’s the better liar?
Roy Courtnay has met his match in the game of cat and mouse when he sets his eye on Betty McLeish. A simple, so what naive woman with millions in the bank. Little does he know, he’s about to get played in his own game.
Played by Helen Mirren, Betty has her own secrets, though knows better than to let Roy, (Ian McKellen) know exactly what she is plotting. With the help of a family friend, she’ll attempt to do the impossible and fool the fool, but can she do it or is she just playing right into Roy’s devilish plan.
At an hour and 49 minute run time, The Good Liar is the perfect romantic film which gives grave caution to those in the online dating film and Mirren and McKellen are exceptional in keeping the ultimate poker face into what their true motives are. To the outside casual viewer, it could be a cute love story for a more mature age range, but of course that is not always the case, which leaves viewers with the underlying concern of dater beware. The profile doesn’t paint the whole picture and one can’t be too careful when money is on the line.
That being said, the film, based on the book by Nicholas Searle, does a great job of capturing that while holding the audience in suspense up to the last scene. It’s definitely a film that one should not miss.
The Good Liar came out in theaters November 15, and is currently playing in one near you.
