“The Garfield Movie” REVIEW

The Latest comic strip adaptation of Garfield is flying to theaters this Memorial Day Weekend and is sure to give Furiosa a run for the money at the box office.

Garfield, stars Guardian’s Chris Pratt as he reunites with his long lost father, Vic (Samuel L. Jackson) on a new adventure that is bigger than one can imagine.

Following the same beloved story of the comic strip from the 70’s, this new telling does have a few familiar faces as well as new ones. Yes it does show how Garfield and his beloved human companion first met (over the love of Italian). Jon, voiced by Renfield’s Nicolas Hoult and of course loveable Odie, voiced by Puss ‘n Boots’ Harvey Guillen, who leaves all his vocal talents on the floor with a wordless interpretation of the lovable pup.

The film also brings light to questions that we didn’t even know we had and that is of his long lost father. We see that his father does exist, though it raises questions also as to why he left Garfield all alone for Jon to find. A bit of a tear jerker to say the least is this question of just why his father left and even more why he choses to return..

That being said, the film, though it is familiar, will have audiences engaged in the cartoon action that does seem quite life like especially with the real life cat videos on Garfield’s favorite streaming site “Catflix”.

Additionally, the film does hold on to the comic strip icon of Jim Davis, especially with a fun clip at the end of the credits in comic book style where they spoof the idea of a sequel.

Garfield is currently playing in a theater near you as the Summer blockbusters officially take over this Memorial day weekend. Rated PG, Garfield is a must see for the whole family.
