It’s a race of freedom kindled through the most unlikely bond as known enemies become allies through the same motivation: destroy the Taliban. The only thing is will they be able to be truly free and flee the corruption of the Afghanistan militia.
Guy Richie‘s The Covenant stars Ambulance‘s Jake Gyllenhaal as Sergeant John McKinley as on one of his tours, he enlists Afghan interpreter, Ahmad. However what starts as just a business relationship in exchange for an American visa, turns into a close bond as both wind up coming to the rescue of the other, when they need it most of all. Ultimately Gyllenhaal does an exceptional job of displaying both emotion, strengthen and lastly cunning edge savviness especially when moving through the desert terrain of Afghanistan. Similarly, Game of Thrones’ Dar Salim‘s performance as Ahmad is equally exquisite as he captures a different approach of a man just needing to make a paycheck to a man willing to put his life on the line for the man who hired him as a translator.
Based on true events in the 20 year War on Terror in Afghanistan, The Covenant paints a visual story of the pain, emotion and all and all, bonds that were formed between the U-S soldiers and the Afghan interpreters that put their own lives on the line all in the name of justice against the Taliban. Ultimately it will have Americans understanding just what went on in the War the shook the first part of the 21st Century as we stop and wonder was it really worth it.
All in all, The Covenant is definitely a movie worth seeing. It has powerful special effects as well as awesome emotional scenes that will leaving wondering if the two unsung heroes will even make it out in time. It came out April 21, 2023 and is currently playing in a theater near you.
