“The Batman” REVIEW

Twilight‘s Robert Pattinson is number three in the nearly 30 year period as the third actor to portray The Batman. All in all, he doesn’t disappoint. His performance as the iconic superhero bares similarity to Michael Keaton who first appeared as the 1989 Batman. Watching Pattinson, one can definitely say he studied Keaton’s performance in order to do justice to the Batman.

The newest rendition of The Batman follows a two year period of living as the vigil antic as Batman wonders if he is even making a difference. The film takes place over the course of 6 days as batman is riddled by an old familiar face that leads to him going back into his father’s files to uncover the truth.

The film also does a good job of bringing out notable villains including the riddler, the penguin and even a brief off screen appearance of the joker. The actors chosen for the memorable roles are perfection.

Looper’s Paul Dano captured the mystery and intrigue behind the riddler. Even as we barely saw his face, his performance captivated us and made us know as soon as he came on screen that he was in fact the riddler. He had the psychotic physique down pat as one who knows wha he is doing and is having fun with it.

Similarly Colin Farrell as the penguin was a perfect compliment to the original played by Danny Devito. Like Patterson, one can definitely see that Farrell might have studied Devito’s performance. The expressions of the two penguins are almost mirror images which would make fans of the original happy to see.

The Batman also brings out the cat as Zoe Kravitz plays Cat woman and like the others, pays homage to the original (Michelle Pfeiffer). The unique chemistry between Patterson and herself almost has people grabbing for a cold cup of water at moments. She truly captures the struggle that cat woman has always had, that of is she good or is she bad. In the end, it’s left up to the audience to make that final decision.

The Batman came out in theaters March 4 and at nearly 3 hour runtime, it is being called one of the darkest Batman‘s yet. The film packs what was in three films from the original into one action packed movie. It’s currently playing in a theater near you and is well worth the wait for true fans of the genre.
