90th Annual Oscars RECAP
Jimmy Kimmel hosted the 90th Annual Oscars at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on Sunday March 4, 2018, and his opening monologue included last year’s best picture mix up as well as Oscar’s 90th birthday and also paid homage to the Time’s Up Movement. Kimmel also encouraged short speeches for the winners with a jet ski to the one who has the shortest speech.
Best supporting actor was the first award presented by Viola Davis and awarded to Sam Rockwell for his first Oscar award for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri”. So far, the first speech was 1 minute and 29 seconds.
- Gal Gadot and Armie Hammer presented the award for Hair and Make Up to “Darkest Hour”.
- The past best actress from 1955 for “All The Waterfront”, Eva Marie Saint presented the award for Costume Design to Mark Bridges as his second Oscar for “Phantom Thread”.
- Greta Gerwig and Laura Dern presented the award for Best Documentary to Bryan Fogal and Dan Cogan for the Netflix film, “Icarus”.
- Taraji P Henson introduced the first song up for Best Original Song, “Mighty River”, by Mary J. Blige who is the first actress to be nominated for Best Original Song and Best Supporting Actress.
- Kimmel read the first joke given out at the first awards ceremony in 1929, “Christopher Plummer is the youngest nominee”, coincidentally this year, Plummer is the oldest nominee.
- Ansel Elgort and Eiza Gonzalez gave out the award for Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing both to “Dunkirk”.
- Kumail Nanjiani and Lupita Nyong’o presented the award for Production Design to “The Shape of Water”.
- Best original song nominee, “Remember Me” from Disney’s “Coco” was performed by the original cast members of the Animated film.
- Kimmel decided to add a trip to Lake Kabasu as an incentive for the shortest speech. Thus far, Mark Bridges (“Phantom Thread”) is ahead with 36 second speech.
- Rita Morena winner of the 1962 “West Side Story” presented Best Foreign Language Film to “A Fantastic Woman”, making this the first Oscar Win for Chile.
- Mahasula Ali who took Best Actor last year presented Best Actress in a Supporting Role to Allison Janney for “I, Tanya”.
- The Cast of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, complete with BB 8, presented the award for Best Animated Short Film to Glen Keane and Kobe Bryant for “Dear Basketball” and best Animated Feature Film goes to “Coco”.
- Daniela Vega introduced the third song nominated from the film, “Call Me By Your Name”, performed by Sufjan Stevens, “Mystery of Love”.
- Gina Rodriguez and Tom Holland presented the award for Visual Effects to “Blade Runner 2049”.
- Matthew McConaughey awarded Best Film Editing to Lee Smith for “Dunkirk”.
- Jimmy Kimmel also took a small break from the awards to thank the movie goers that were in the other theater across from the dolby theater and one of the fans in the theater, Mike Young introduced the next presenters.
- Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph presented the award for Documentary Short Subject to Frank Stiefel for “Heaven is a Traffic Jam On The 405” and the award for Best Live Action Short Film goes to Chris Overton and Rachel Shenton for “The Silent Child”.
- Dave Chappelle introduced the fourth best original song, by Andra Day and Common, “Stand Up For Something” from the movie, “Marshall”.
- Ashley Judd, Salma Hayek and Annabella Sciorra talks about movies and how this year’s films especially highlight the very essence of the “Time’s Up” Movement and how they are making a difference for what is to come next with words of encouragement for future projects.
- Chadwick Boseman and Margot Robbie presented the award for best adapted screen play to James Ivory for “Call Me By Your Name”.
- Nicole Kidman presented the award for best original screenplay to Jordan Peele for his first Oscar win for “Get Out”.
- Wes Studi introduced a special tribute to the films that had a strong military story over the years, several of which were honored with a Oscar nomination over the last 90 years as it thanked our currently military veterans and soldiers.
- Sandra Bullock presented the award for Best Cinematography to Roger A Deakins for “Blade Runner 2049”.
- Zendaya introduces the final nominated song, sung by Keala Settle, “This Is Me”, from “The Greatest Showman”, which received a standing ovation for the performance.
- 1974 Academy Award winner, Christopher Walken presented best original score to composer Alexandre Desplat for “The Shape of Water”.
- Emily Blunt and Lin Manuel Miranda presented the award for best original song to Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez for “Remember Me”.
- Jennifer Garner introduced the memorandum for those who left us last year, as Tom Petty’s song, “Top of the World” plays in the background.
- Emma Stone presents the award for Best Director to Guillermo Del Toro for his first Oscar win for “The Shape of Water”.
- Jane Fonda and Helen Mirren presented the award for Best Actor to Gary Oldman for his first Oscar for “Darkest Hour”.
- Jodie Foster and Jennifer Lawrence presented the award for Best Actress to Francis McDormand for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri”.
- And the best picture, presented by Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, is…

89th Annual Oscars RECAP
It’s the biggest night in Hollywood as celebrities fill the Dolby Theater in Hollywood to welcome the newest inductees into the Academy Award Family and the stakes are high as to who will take the prized Oscar.
At 5:30 p.s.t, the show kicked off with Justin Timberlake singing the opening number dedicated to his Oscar nominated song, “Can’t Stop The Feeling”.
Jimmy Kimmel took the stage after lightening the moment with jokes after jokes about stars as well as politics, as Kimmel introduced various oscar nominees, including the first Amazon Film, Manchester By The Sea and Casey Afflict, Isabelle Huppert for Elle and Denzel Washington for Fences.
- Mahershala Ali took the Oscar for best supporting actor in Moonlight.
- Suicide Squad took the Oscar for hair and makeup, while best costume design went to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
- O.J: Made In America won the Oscar for Best documentary feature, presented by the actresses from Hidden Figures as well as the real life hero, Katherine Johnson.
- Auli’i Cravalho performed her Oscar nominated song, from Moana, “How Far I’ll Go” with a stunning flag routine depicting waves and the island.
- Arrival received its first Oscar for sound editing and Hacksaw Ridge took the Oscar for sound mixing.
- Viola Davis took home the Oscar for Best Actress in a supporting role for the film Fences.
- Shirley MacLaine and Charlize Theron presented the best foreign language film to Iran’s film, The Salesman.
- Sting performed his song, The Empty Chair which is up for best original song.
- Piper took home the Oscar for Best Animated short film and the Oscar for best animated feature film went to Zootopia.
- La La Land took its first Oscar for production design.
- The Oscar for Visual Effects goes to the Jungle Book and the Oscar for Film Editing goes to Hacksaw Ridge for its second win.
- The White Helmets took the Oscar for documentary short subject and the Oscar for live action feature film goes to Sing.
- The Oscar for Cinematography goes to La La Land for its second Oscar.
- John Legend performs the last two songs from La La Land up for best original song, “City of Stars” and “Audition”.
- The Best original music score goes to Justin Hurwitz for La La Land and the best original song goes to “City of Stars” for La La Land’s fourth win and the second win for Justin Hurwitz.
- Jennifer Aniston introduced the ‘In Memoriam’ to those lost in the 2016 year, including, Gene Wilder, Patty Duke, Gerry Marshall, Mary Tyler Moore John Hurt, Anton Yelchin, Nancy Reagan, Ken Howard, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Debbie Reynolds, and Carrie Fisher, including a special shout out to Bill Paxton who just passed away one day before the Oscars.
- Kenny Lonergan took the Oscar for Best original screenplay for Manchester By The Sea in its first Oscar for an Amazon film.
- The Best adapted screenplay Berry Jenkins and Terrell Alvin McCraney for Moonlight giving the film its second Oscar Win for the night.
- Damien Chazelle takes the Oscar for best director, becoming the youngest director to date at just 32 years old.
- Casey Afflict takes the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role in the Amazon film Manchester By The Sea making its second win for the night.
- Emma Stone takes the Oscar for best actress in a leading role in the film La La Land, making its 6th win out of 14 nominations.
- And finally, the best picture for the 89th Academy Awards is Moonlight, despite the error. This makes Moonlight’s third Oscar, for best picture. Congratulations.
The 89th Academy Awards aired exclusively on ABC from 5:30 PST til 9 on February 26, 2017. The winners are chosen by a collection of former actors and members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

26th Annual “Night of 100 Stars” Oscar Party
On the biggest night in Hollywood, Oscar’s Night, past and current Nominees gather for a night of dinner while watching the 88th Annual Academy Awards. “Spotlight” Review
One of the Oscar nominated films, Spotlight is still drawing a small number of viewers to theaters across the nation as it brings in over half a million, the last week before the Oscars, bringing its told number up to 57 million worldwide since it opened back in November.
The Independent Newsroom drama stars Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton and Rachel McAdams as the team of investigative journalists from the Boston Globe uncover the scandal of the century and fight to be the first to break the news in “Spotlight“.
Overall, it’s a film that is packed with powerful performances by Ruffalo, McAdams, and Keaton that show the struggle that real journalists face in dealing with touchy topics in order to get the story and uncover the truth and is definitely worth the consideration for best picture at this year’s Oscar.
In addition to its nomination for best picture, Spotlight also has 5 other nominations, including best supporting actor, best supporting actress, film editing and original screenplay. The 88th Annual Academy Awards will air on Sunday February 22, 2016 at 7 eastern/ 4 pacific standard time.
Spotlight is currently available to own Tuesday February 23, 2016. See it. It’s clearly another classic in the genre along with Citizen Kane as well as All the President’s Men.

On February 22, 2015, while everyone was trying to view the Oscars in Hollywood, past academy winners and nominees showed
up at the Beverly Hilton for the 25th Annual Night of 100 Stars.
