CHP officer remembered at Harvest Christian Fellowship

On August 18, 2019, Officer Andre Moye was remembered by hundreds of officers and close family at a public memorial nearly a week after his life was taken in a pursuit where two gunman shot and killed him, injuring two others.

The memorial service hosted by Harvest Christian Fellowship included various family members including his young wife Sarah and cousin Melissa, who each shared stories of Andre in front of several hundred CHP officers. As tradition holds, the ceremony concluded with the decommissioning of Andre’s badge number followed by a horse drawn exit where officers saluted the fallen as the casket passed through the gauntlet.

A private burial was held shortly after for close friends and family. Watch below at a short video, recapping words said as loved ones said goodbye one last time.

Riverside Welcomes the Dog

This year asian pacific culturals had booths for people to learn a little more about their culture.

And one could pose with traditional garments and parasols.

Young kids and adults demonstrated various karate techniques.

And Hawaiian dancers demonstrated Hula techniques

A Tea tasting for residents to see the art of tea drinking.

Wells Fargo was in the spirit for the Year of the Dog with lovable dog banks for people to take home.

And dog adoptions were the highlight of the event also to commemorate the Year of the Dog and to help lovable friends find forever homes.

In the parade of nations, Taiko drums by the UC Riverside students kept the beat as different nations walked down the street with firecrackers chasing out the demons.

Women with parasols demonstrated traditional garb that women wear.

Each color signified a different culture.

Riverside Welcomes The Rooster

At 10 o’clock, the parade of nations marched down market street toward the days festivities.

All Asian Cultures were encouraged to come out and take place in this momentous occasion.

Even the taiko drummers marched regally down the street demonstrating their talents.

And of course the Riverside fire department was there to show their support and keep every one safe.

Vendors including Farm Fresh to you, were along the street entising people to try their services.

While others offered free things like face painting for all.

This year markets the year of the Fire rooster and it just so happens to fall on the first official day of the new year.

Red lanterns lined the street for the occasion.

And of course asian decor displayed at the booths.

Sample of tea made while you waited at the tables.

And Origami was demonstrated for those brave enough to try.

Residents got into the spirit by embracing their own asian roots including asian pacific islanders with their ukeleles.

Residents could even learn chinese as well as japanese chalegraphy.

And the CHP kept us safe by reminding that they are our friends.

In the children’s villiage, there was a petting zoo where children could enjoy a little animal therapy.

And anyone could create their own doll, necklace or lantern in the arts and crafts area.

The sun began to set around 6 and the lanterns illuminated the streets to get ready for the fireworks at 645.

80 Years of Danish Days in Solvang, Calif.

As previously reported, this year marks its 80th year and the little Danish town of Solvang, located just north of Santa Barbara, California is still coming together as a community to celebrate their annual Danish Days over the three day weekend on the third weekend in September from the 18th to the 20th.

The Healing Hearts Sanctuary rescues and rehabilitates animals so that they can live normal lives.

This little goat who has trouble moving his back legs was brought out for people to see and pet in the Hans Christian Anderson Park.

The color guard carried both the American and Danish flag in the Danish Days parade.

This year’s Danish Maid is Natalya Nielsen, of Nielson Market who grew up in the Solvang community and who’s family has been involved in Danish Days since 1911.

Bands including the Nordoff High School Marching Band marched in the parade that celebrates danish heritage in the town.

The culture of the Vikings alao play a key role in the Danish Days parade as this boat made its way down the street.

And the neighborhood actor Randel McGee as Hans Christian Anderson rode in his car for all to see.

Folk dancers entertained crowds both in the parade and in the villiage with Danish Dancing.

Motorcycles trailed behind wearing viking attire for all to see.

And lego was a proud sponsor this year as they celebrated generations of fun and allowed kids to put together lego projects.

The Carlsberg Pilsner band of veterans performed both in the parade and in the villiage.

The Old World Artisans was a place where different trades including jewelry and more could showcase what Solvang shops do best.

In addition wood work was on display as visitors could watch them at work.

This turtle was crafted out of a tree trunk on that very day.

There was live entertainment including Danish dancers, a youth band and a bit of rock and roll to conclude the evening.

Saturday’s festivities concluded with a music concert by a local band called Echoswitch on the Midgaard Pavilion Stage.

Riverside welcomes “The Monkey”

Festivities start early in Downtown Riverside as the 6th annual Asian Pacific Lunar New Year kicks off the Year of the Monkey on Saturday January 31, 2016. Roughly 70 thousand people turned out for the celebration which included a Parade of Nations, opening welcome, entertainment throughout the streets as well as food and culminating with fireworks to officially kick of the New Year.

The Year of the Monkey official starts on the first new moon between January 20 and February 15 and concludes with the Lantern festival in Los Angeles on March 5, 2016. Stay tuned for the conclusion coming in a few weeks.

The 84th Annual Christmas Parade Tradition in Hollywood

On the first Sunday after Thanksgiving, residents gather on Hollywood Blvd ever year to start the Christmas Season with the Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade.

This year, the grand marshall is the Las Vegas magician’s Penn & Teller and there was lots of crowd interactions with one of the hosts, Montel Williams as they performed Christmas themed tricks, like the one below.

Public officials and celebrities alike rode in cars down the boulevard, as giant balloons of famous characters had residents cheering for their favorites.

Leading the way for the parade was Hollywood’s local fire department as well as the US Marine Corp. Band.

Marching bands played christmas songs in front of the grand stand.

Various balloons like the cat in the hat, glided down Hollywood blvd beginning at Orange street.

Movie cars like the Jurassic Park suv complete with a dinosaur marveled crowds.

Public officials and celebrities road in classic cars and waved to the public.

A Japanese dance troop enriched the parade bring culture to the Hollywood Christmas Tradition

The parade concluded at 8:30 with the visit of santa welcoming the holiday season to So Cal.

The rebroadcast of the 84th Annual Christmas parade will play on Dec. 11 at 8 p.m on the CW channel. Check your local cable provider for more information.

140 years of Fair Fun by the Ocean

It’s a Country Fair with Ocean Air, back again for its 140th year at the Ventura County Fairgrounds and and there’s a lot of fun things to experience from nightly musical performances by stars including Salt and Pepa, Leann Rimes, Neil Sedaka, Beatriz Adriana, Chaka Khan and its ever popular rodeo closing out the 12 day run on August 15 and 16, 2015 and all is included in the 12 dollar fair admission.

Masters of the trade demonstrated the art of various talents such as metal pressing and wire wrapping.

Trains, planes and more were on display for all the marvel at the work.

Collectors presented their best work for a chance of winning blue, red and white ribbons in the gems and minerals building.

Minerals and quarts were awarded for their color and texture.

As always ferris wheels and other carnival rides entertained teens and kids at just a dollar a ticket or 25 dollars for an all day wristand.

Creations of flowers were arranged in designs like this pink and purple teddy bear in the floriculture building.

Flowers are changed out every few days and rejudged for its uniqueness and color.

In the youth expo, projects, like this handmade dress, are displayed to show the talents of kids in the Ventura County School district.

Etiquette is key in the schools as this creative table setting won the blue ribbon for its creativity and properness.

Animals of all kinds were brought out to the fairgrounds for its patrons to see and bid on in the auction arena.

A poster contest where applicants created fair themed posters showing the best part of what the Ventura County fair had to offer.

Collections of of photographs, amateur and professionals showed even more talent of individuals that wanted to have their work displayed in the photography section.

This pastel painting was just one of the many runner ups for the blue ribbon of uniqueness and style.

There are also nightly fireworks at exactly 10 p.m. that illuminate the sky over the fairgrounds by the ocean which makes fairgoers stop what they are doing and enjoy the sights.

Riverside Celebrates The Year of The Goat

Gong Xi Fa Cai! (Happy New Year)

Asians in Riverside, Calif., brought in the Year of the Goat at the fifth Annual Asian Pacific Lunar New Year on Saturday January, 31st, 2015. There were lots of cultural entertainment all day as well as a health expo, Children’s Village where kids could make their own sheep and much more for everyone to experience.

The city of Riverside is a strong supporter of Asians and the Lunar New Year Celebration.

Taiko Drummers captivated audiences with their passion.

Young Children in their cultural wear, marched down Mission Inn Street as firecrackers welcomed the new year.

A half hour show entertained audiences and transported them to the islands of the Asian Pacific.

Keeping with the Asian theme, most of the costumes were some form of Japanese Anime.

From the popular Disney film frozen, this rendition of Elsa was part of the Cosplay fashion show.

To conclude the evening’s festivities, fireworks were shot off from the library roof.

4th Annual Luminaria Festival in Studio City

On Sunday December 7, 2014, hundreds of residents gathered at the historic Campo De Cahuenga as the sun set and over 4-thousand paper lanterns lit up the grounds next to the Universal Red Line for the 4th annual Luminaria Festival.

Outside the Campo de Cahuenga, various music talents from Studio City entertained hundreds

As the sun sets, lanterns give the only light in the area.

There was complimentary hot chocolate, apple cider and cookies courtesy of Smart and Final for all to enjoy on a winter night as they listened to select musical talents.
