“Death on the Nile” Review
Three murders. One mastermind plan. The only question is who is responsible?
Based on the best selling crime drama by Agatha Christie, comes a story filled with mystery, suspense and more. On the celebration of Simon and Lynnette Doyle’s wedding, guests board the majestic riverboat for a stunning trip down the Nile. Unfortunately that trip turns deadly when Mrs. Doyle is murdered. Now it’s up to a suspicious British detective to figure out just what happened and more importantly who is responsible.
At 2 hours 7 minutes, run time Death of the Nile is the perfect crime drama. The film as a whole is a classic “Who done it” type as it mirrors that of the classic Clue game.
Set in the early 1900’s, the film is also the perfect period piece. The setting, costumes and accents made the 1920’s come to life on the big screen. A large part is due to the exceptional acting and directing by Kenneth Branagh. From the first picturesque scene filmed in black and while with the war to the camera angles, all adds to the timeless nature of the film.
Additionally the film stars Wonder Woman‘s Gal Gadot and Mirror Mirror’s Armie Hammer as the picture perfect couple that is turn apart with murder. The chemistry between Gadot and Hammer is so emotional one can feel the tension when the first shot is fired.
Other actors include Tom Bateman, who is no stranger to Agatha Christie films in his 2017 role in Murder on the Orient Express. That being said, Bateman knows how to hide the truth even when staring at the killer straight in the eye.
Overall, this latest crime drama came out on the eve of valentine’s weekend and will have anyone who likes a little murder mystery on the edge of their seats. See Death on the Nile in a theater near you.
“Greta” Review
“Ocean’s 8” Review
“Kluger’s Associate: Do you know this woman?
[shows her a photo]
Daphne Kluger: No.
Kluger’s Associate: Debbie Ocean. Convicted felon. Her brother, Danny Ocean, more convicted felon. She was present on the night of the incident.
Daphne Kluger: Ooh. So…”
It’s time for the little sister to pull off the ultimate crime of the century in the latest all female cast where now it’s Debbie’s turn.
In the same fashion as her older brother, Debbie, who has spent five years in jail devising the perfect crime will now put together a team of seven to steal a pricey diamond necklace, planted around the neck of Daphne Kluger while at the Met Gala. There’s only one question, will they get away with it?
At exactly 2 hour run time, the film captures the same charm as its masculine predecessors, Oceans 11 while bringing something new to the screen. The chemistry between Sandra Bullock who plays Debbie and her partner in crime, Cate Blanchett as Lou is adequately played, though one might think it could have been a little bit stronger. That was the only thing I found lacking, despite the teaser trailers that entices audiences. AS far as the movie goes, it seems the two struggled to find the chemistry to drive the crime plotting.
In addition, the others who made up the rest of the team, in a way sort of got lost in the shuffle as there was nothing really memorable, though Helena Bonham Carter as well as Anne Hathaway did have some funny moments which caught the audience by surprise, especially when Hathaway confronts the team with a line of “bad acting” from Carter.
That aside, I did find myself laughing all the way through as the true story of the anatomy of a crime played out on the big screen.
Ocean’s 8 came out in theaters, June 8, and is currently playing in a theater near you. See it with an open mind for funny moments about the criminal masterminds.
“Death Wish” REVIEW
The Action Crime Drama, Death Wish is back on the screen this time starring Bruce Willis as Dr. Paul Kersey. In the eve of his wife’s murder and daughter who is in a coma, Paul decides to take matters into his own hands when the police seems to be overrun by the rising crime rate in Chicago. Soon the media starts to take notice as this hooded man gets revenge of all the thugs in town, deeming him either a guardian angel or grim reaper.
At an hour and 48 minutes, Death Wish is action packed, similar to the original starring Charles Bronson, only this time there is a slight difference in the career of Paul. In the remake, he is a doctor as opposed to an architect. That aside, the film does a good job of sticking to the original storyline of the 1974 version and Bruce Willis is definitely the right choice for replacing Charles Bronson as the lead. Willis even pay homage to the original at the end by cocking his fingers back in a pistol, (something that all the other Death Wish films had in common).
Overall, it’s a movie that is entertaining for the sake of entertainment. It reminds us all, that we should do anything in our power to protect the ones we love, though maybe not go on a shooting rampage, but for the sake of Hollywood, Death Wish brought back old school “ass-kicking” to the big screen, thanks to its director, Eli Roth.
Death Wish came out in theaters, March 2 and is currently playing in a theater near you.
