“Panther” Exceeds Expectations

One of the largest pre sale grossing movies for President’s Day Weekend has finally made it to theaters as Thursday night previews proved to be a sign that the Wakandan King will fare well at the box office this weekend as it is targeting close to 200 million according to box office mojo.

Marvel’s Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa who is next in line for King and high honor as Black Panther after his father passes on.  However upon assuming the role, he finds his country being challenged by an outside force as Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) attempts to overthrow him for his own angry intentions with the help of Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis).

But will T’Challa be able to keep his kingdom and save it from the terror of the other nation.

Also starring in Black Panther is Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross and of course the much anticipated cameo by comic book  legend, Stan Lee.

At 2 hours and 20 minutes, Black Panther is not your average superhero movie, as the film itself is heavily saturated with exposition that fans craved for after Black Panther’s debut in Captain America: Civil War.  There is a lot of depth to the movie that has audiences not turning their eyes away for a second.  It explains the legend of the Panther and follows the struggle between brother and brother as it is a fight to figure out which one will be the rightful ruler.

Black Panther is currently out in theaters February 16 and is a must for any comic book fan.

“Valerian” Review

The latest Sci Fi blockbuster for the summer is bringing in small crowds as it opened last weekend with 17 million domestically, finishing at number 5 for its opening weekend.

Luc Breeson’s Valerian and The City of a Thousand Planets unites two Comic book stars, Dane DeHaan from The Amazing Spiderman 2 and Cara Delevingne from Suicide Squad in an adventure 400 years in the future.  They are special agents working to recover a lost item from a band of scavengers, Igon Sirus, voiced by John Goodman, but the item is far more valuable then expected as Agent Valerian dreams of planet Maul being destroyed by something dangerous.

Now it’s a fight to return the item to its rightful place in order to restore peace to the galaxy.

Valerian and The City of a Thousand Planets contains stunning 3D CGI that will have audiences in wonder over the realistic and virtual reality that our characters travel through.  It’s so awesome one doesn’t even need 3D glasses to enjoy the experience.  There is also a hint of playful romance brewing between Agent Valerian and Sgt. Laureline, though one might find it a bit on the over rushed as the two young adults try to balance their affections with that of saving the galaxy.

More over, its an entertaining movie that will have you on the edge of your seats not knowing exactly what will happen next as Valerian attempts to show Laureline that his intensions are as pure as they come.  And the shocker at the end is who is really responsible for the near destruction of an entire species.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets also co stars, Clive Owen as Commander Filitt, Ethan Hawke as Jolly the Pimp and Rihanna as Bubble.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets came out in theaters, July 21 and is currently showing in one near you.  If Sci Fi and romance is your forte, make sure to see this before it’s too late.

Disney Sets Record- Captain America

Disney has reached the 1 Billion dollar mark in just over 128 days concluding with its latest Marvel Film, Captain America: Civil War.  The blockbuster follows the team of Avengers in their latest fight against each other, especially when the United Nations force the super heroes to limit their effects on the world to only being called upon in extreme situations.  But the heroes are divided on whether or not leaving the saving to the UN is such a good idea and thus the Civil War begins.  The two sides, headed up by Iron man and Captain America leave for some powerful fight sequences as well as witty bantering back and forth until they come to some kind of understanding.

At 2 and a half hours, Captain America: Civil War introduces a whole new team and challenges along the way.  It is very much entertaining to the eye and ultimately leaves the viewer wanting more every second that goes by.  Captain America stars a line up of well-known actors including, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America as well as Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Paul Bettany as Vision, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlett Witch, Paul Rudd as Antman and Emily Vancamp as Sharon Carter and of course, no Avenger film is complete without a cameo by creator Stan Lee.

Thus far, Captain America has earned just shy of 200 million domestically and is currently playing at a theater near you.  See it soon, you won’t regret it.
