“Summering” Review

In a time between enjoying childhood and preparing for the future, 4 tweens set out an adventure that they didn’t expect to have happen. On one visit to a familiar childhood tree, they find a mysterious dead guy at the base. Without worrying their mom’s the voyage out on one last trip though the world of the psychic’s to try to commune with the man and find out what is story is. All the while each girl is faced with new changes that will affect what happens the following week when they enter middle school.

All in all, Summering is the ultimate feel good family comedy. While it does have a few jump scares, its completely acceptable for a preteen or older audience.

The cast consists of several newer actresses. One of the most notable is No Escape‘s Lake Bell playing one of the mother’s and carrying the comedy to a whole other aspect. She definitely has a knack for being able to adjust to working with tween’s on set, as she has a certain parental vibe while still trying to be cool.

The young girls played by Lia Bennett, Sanai Victoria, Madelen Mills and Eden Grace Redfield all bring something unique to the cast and share a common bound that shows the power of friendship in the mix of growing up.

Summering came out in theaters August 12th and is a great coming of age movie with a heart of the power of friendship. It’s currently playing in one hear you and is highly recommended.
