“Space Jam: New Legacy” Review

It’s time to get Looney in the latest film that is 25 years after it predecessor. Same basic story but with more of a family vibe as Basketball superstar Lebron James joins the cast. The film shows a some what dysfunctional father son connection as James like his father tries to instill the love of sports on to his second born son. The problem is his son just isn’t in the game as his real love for creating video games, sparks interest from another realm, the Cyber realm.

In this alternate universe, there is a being, Al G Rhythm who is determined to get Lebron to enter into his world via Warner 3000. But when Lebron turns him down, he takes matters into his own hands as he causes both Lebron and his son to get trapped in his world. Now its a battle of basketball using a game that Lebron’s son created in an effort to trap Lebron and delete those lovable tunes once and for all.

Space Jam: New Legacy though it still has the all in all idea of the tune squad going up against the goon squad, one must say the writers cleverly created a unique storyline for a new age of watchers. Of course, for those who remember the original, there were a few looney references including a joke cameo appearance by Michael B Jordan as well as a cameo appearance by the original goons in the audience.

Lebron James additionally did a fair job of trying to live up to the “Jordan” legend while making it his own. One would have to say this new sequel did have a few more funny lines which made the film that much more enjoyable. Also being the the “space” was literally the inside of the computer, the location showed much more of the Warner Brothers lot which made for an interesting turn.

Lastly and because of the digital realm, there were effects in the movie that made things pleasing to the eye and definitely is worth seeing in a theater setting. There were things on the screen that for sure were enhanced by the big screen as an all going movie experience.

Space Jam: New Legacy came out in theaters July 16th, 25 years after the original Space Jam debuted. It is certainly a must see for fans of the original and anyone who loves those lovable looney tunes. It will have you laughing and cheering from the first scene on.
