“Solo” Review

I’m a driver and I’m a flyer. (Han Solo)

Questions are answered in the latest origin story that delves into the life of one of the most loveable bad boys in the galaxy.

Solo: A Star Wars story features Alden Ehrenreich as Hans Solo and shows the audience just where this bad boy came from.  The the film, questions get answered as one learns the most valuable piece of information, his name, which in turn makes sense seeing him in later episodes of Star Wars as to why he is always a loner, so to speak.

The story also allows the audience to see just how Solo meets Chewbacca as we finally learn just how old the furry wookie really is and Lando (Donald Glovershows up as an aid to Solo as he brings the millennium falcon to the screen in what should be the first time.

There are a few new faces including Solo’s love interest, whom he has to leave behind when he escapes but then is reunited later, Val (Thandie Newton).  That element did have a slight attraction, though the film was more action driven then anything else, but one definitely saw it coming as all love relationships are tricky in the Star Wars Universe.  After all, just look at Hans and Leia in the original Star Wars.

All in all, the true Star Wars fans will not be disappointed, though there is nothing about the galaxy or force to be experienced.  It’s a movie to show audiences just how Solo got to be Solo and Ron Howard who directed this one, did an exceptional job in creating a sub-story that only further enhances the true Star Wars Story.

Solo: A Star Wars Story came out in theaters May 25, 2018 and can be seen in a theater near you.
