“Silent Night” REVIEW

It’s John Wick meets The Punisher in the latest John Woo film.

In a twist of fate, Godlock finds himself seeking revenge when his only son, an innocent little boy, falls victim to a stray gang bullet. Now he is on a road that leads him where no sane man should go and a loyal wife is faced with the decision to follow along or walk away. The question is how far is too far and is it enough to enact adequate justice for his young son.

Silent Night definitely lives up to its name as the movie contains very few lines of dialogue. Where the dialogue lacks, it makes up in suspenseful music tied with facial expressions that drives the movie to its ultimate climax. Joel Kinnaman, who plays Godlock, does an exceptional job with this, especially portraying one who after a major surgery discovers his vocal cords are damaged. Throughout the film, he uses everything short of words to convey meaning and expression to what he wants audiences to know he’s going through.

Additionally the film also stars Catalina Sandino Moreno as the wife of Godlock, who uses non verbal ways of communicating, including the using of texting to get his attention. She too has a unique style of emotion that she uses to carry herself though this dark place.

All in all, Silent Night is a film set at Christmas Time as it has the same “Die Hart” flare. It’s a film with action, suspense, and revenge that will have you on the edge of your seats wondering what will happen next. The film opened in theaters December 1st and is currently playing in one near you.
