“September 5” REVIEW

The true story of the 1972 terrorist attack in Berlin at the 20th Olympics is bring light to a dark part of our history. September 5 in what was a dark day for Berlin, became a turning point in world media as sports reporters find themselves covering a ongoing act of terrorism, which brought billions to the heart of the events.

September 5, like many of its journalism predecessor films, does an outstanding job of capturing the nuances of what journalists go through day in and day out for the story. It especially captures the timeliness aspect of what many call 24-hour news. The way they cut in and out of the Olympics to the terrorist gunpoints made the story all that more intriguing especially given how many get their news in between day to day life.

The film stars Memory’s Peter Saarsgard, as well as The Crown’s Leonie Benesch, Cinderella‘s Ben Chaplin and Unbroken’s John Magaro as the ABC sports team. All in all, the film would not have been what it was without the actors used to portray very realistic news.

The film came out in limited theaters Dec, 13, just in time for award consideration. It’s already won 9 awards and currently up for 17 more including best motion picture, drama at the Golden Globes.
