San Gabriel Valley Celebrates the Year of the Rat

This was just one of the many chalk art displays which residents could design as the artwork was judged for a chance at a special prize

To culminate the official beginning of the Chinese New Year, residents in San Gabriel Valley came out on Saturday February 8th, 2020 for a day long street fair and festival as the valley welcomed in the year of the rat.

The typical length of the Chinese New Year celebrations begin January 30 and lasts til February 9th.

There were vendors of all sorts lined up up and down mission drive to mission street as visitors could browse the unique food options and check out homemade items to take home.

Various booths including a K-9 unit trying to raise money for their two police dogs on the force as well as CERT, Kaiser, who offered free health screenings and even traditional Asian lunar new year attire enticed people to check out something new.
And a kids zone entertained the smallest with bounce houses as well as a balloon artist who gave out free gifts to the kids.

In addition there was also a stage set up with various entertainment including the music stylings of youtube sensation AJ Rafael as well as a friendly dance competition to conclude the end of the night.

AJ performs disney mesh up as well as an original sung to a make a wish recipient.
3 audience members competed in a freestyle dance competition for a 100 dollar gift card.
