“Rise of The Beasts” REVIEW

Michael Bay brings new transformers to light in his latest blockbuster: Rise of The Beasts. Revisit the animated film from the 80’s, audiences now find there are more than just Autobots and Decepticons. There are also the more animal looking Maximal who have the same missions as the Autobots, but their enemy, the Terricons are a world bigger than the Autobot’s Decepticons.

Set in the mid 90’s, there are quite a few easter eggs that people going up in that era will instantly recognize including the enemy of the 90’s that kids grew up with Bowser who is referenced by the younger brother playing his game boy. There also the idea of a human becoming a transformer which is explored by Mirage and Noah who ends up fighting with Optimus Prime in the Final battle.

Noah Diaz, played by “In the Heights” Anthony Ramos, uses his street smarts from “Heights” to the max in Transformers. One can definitely see similarities in the characters, though unfortunately no singing” but his strong character and witty comedy makes his performance all that more entertaining throughout.

Noah’s female counterpart, Elena (played by Dominique Fishback) additionally adds that Indiana Jones prospective as a treasure seeker trying to uncover something more. The dynamics between the two, though a little rocky at the start, definitely improves as the story goes on.

All in All, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is a film for the whole family, there are fun transformers, action packed scenes and ultimately the fight for good vs evil which is always a hit. The film smashed into theaters June 9th and is currently playing in one near you.
