It’s a journey through time in a world where everyone wants to remember the good in the midst of the troublesome world. That is where Nick Bannister (Hugh Jackman) comes in as he uses a machine with water to cause people to go back to time past. All is good and normal until a mysterious woman (Rebecca Ferguson) with a secret enters Nicks life and changes it. Now he is on a journey through other people’s memories as the woman he loves keeps appearing in them when he least expects it.
At one hour fifty six minutes, Warner Brothers Reminiscence takes unexpected turns as Jackman wonderful narrates in what ends up being a tragic love story turned murder mystery. As the story unfolds so does the action as it heightens to the very end from one who is simply living in memories to one that is fighting for the truth even at painful revelations. Of course there is a specific chemistry between Ferguson and Bannister that makes everyone in the audience want the girl to be ok when she goes missing. Ultimately, that is for the film to tell as though it does contain an ounce of tragedy, there is also a glimmer of hope. In the end it shows that love has the greatest power of all to change someone and cause them to do the right thing.
Reminiscence slightly reminds one of another movie where the world is flooded (Waterworld), though in this blockbuster it is not fully due in large part to the huge skyscapers. All in all, it’s certainly a film that one should see at least once as it has everything from an intriguing storyline combined with action, adventure and of course an epic tragic love story. It’s a film that will have you wondering if it’s at all possible and probable to live in the past rather than living for the future.
Reminiscence came out in theaters August 20, 2021 and is currently playing in one near you.
