“Redeeming Love” REVIEW

“I want to be free, Michael. Just once in my whole life I want to be free.”

For a sexually abused young woman, this is hard to grasp, but for Michael Hosea, it’s a challenge he’s willing to wait for.

Based on the best selling novel by Francine Rivers, Redeeming Love is the creative interpretation of the biblical story of Hosea and Gomer. It follows a young woman (Sarah) as she must learn what love really is after living a life a prostitution. She meets a young man (Michael), who asked God for a companion. Her fear though is if she is unbroken enough to make a life with this charming, faith driven young man. It’s a struggle that she runs from several times in fear before realizing what she wants is in front of her all along.

The film stars a stellar cast as Sarah is played by “I Can Only Imagine‘s” Abigail Cowen. In a different twist from her previous role, this time she embraces that of the fallen believer that must come back from her doubts. she does an exceptional job especially in the way she interacts with each character.

Her husband (Michael Hosea) played byTom Lewis in his first feature length film, similarly does an exceptional job portraying a man of remarkable faith especially when rejected multiple times. It is that determination that drives the story and makes it that much more impactful.

It’s definitely a film for all ages though a mature audience might be recommended for a little brief sexual scenes. That being said, it’s an exceptional movie that really gets you asking the serious questions in life. It came out in theaters January 21 and is currently playing in one near you.
