“Piece By Piece” REVIEW

The latest Focus Features‘ film, Piece by Piece, tells the musical story of Pharrell Williams in a different way: by way of Legos. The film is unique as it it truly a documentary style film as he tries to capture the younger generations who know his movies best.

Piece by Piece, stars Williams and continues many original songs as it starts from his childhood, growing up in “the hood” of Viginia Beach to joining musical groups including the iconic Neptunes and further expending into the musical producer character where he inevitably created the iconic song from Despicable Me.

The film furthermore features, music icons including Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z and Busta Rhymes; all of whom had an impact on Pharrell.

The underlining message behind Piece by Piece, to “Turn up the volume on your imagination” shines through this colorful array of images as it brings hope to a darker period of everyone’s life. You can’t not be “Happy” as you hear the music and see the colors that is Piece By Piece.

The fun documentary came out in theaters October 11th and is currently playing in a theater near you.
