When a innocent family moves into a new home, the first thing they think of is “let’s fill the swimming pool”. What ends up as a harmless thought will have the family gasping for their lives as they soon discover there is indeed something lurking beneath the water.
Night Swim, in typical Blumhouse standard, will have you second guessing going into the water. Overall the film resembles that of another “Jaws” type movie, though the writers definitely put new meeting to how one interacts with all types of water, not just in the pool.
The film does star a few relative known actors, including Wyatt Russell, Kerry Condon, Amelie Hoeferle and Gavin Warren as the willing family trying to turn the pool into a safe haven. All in all, the four do a phenomenal job especially in dealing with the demon in the pool. The acting styles make the roles they play that much believable to the watchful eyes of the audience. It’s refreshing to see a variety of different actors that one doesn’t see in mainstream media as it shows there is much more talent than the popular.
Ultimately, Night Swim, which came out January 5, may not be for all crowds. That being said, if one can stomach mild suspense thrillers, it is certainly one for audiences to take a chance on. It is a milder PG 13 horror film and thus doesn’t have nearly all the violence and langauge that hard core R rated movies have. Parental guidance is recommended though for an older teen it might not be to intimidating. The film is currently playing in a theater near you.
