“My Penguin Friend” REVIEW

It’s a heartfelt tale of the most unlikely of friendships that are the strongest bonds yet. When a man and his wife, recovering from the tragic loss of their son, discover a little penguin who needs help, the couple uses this to help them move on and reconnect with the community again.

My Penguin Friend is about moving on when tragedy strikes and learning that there is more to live for. It also shows the miraculous nature of how a penguin migrates and returns to the same place on opposite ends of the equator, even if it means traveling 5000 miles to do so. The connection that the trainers went through with the ten penguins used to portray Dindim. The truth of the matter is 80% of the shots were done using the real life penguins, which credit goes to the trainer and all those handling those magnificent birds.

Looking at the acting, Die Hart’s Jean Reno plays the man captivated by the penguin as well as his wife, (played by Blue Beetle’s Adriana Barraza) who does an equally exceptional job of supporting her husband while providing a bit of comedic relief. That being said, there is a natural comedic element especially as the camera’s seamlessly follow the penguin around in all it’s pure comedic timings. Who needs a comedian when you can watch nature at it’s finest.

My Penguin Friend came out in theaters August 16 and is an awesome movie with a message of conservation at the heart of it all. It’s based on a true story and is currently playing in a theater near you.
