In an epic ten-episode series, the latest Mighty Ducks: Game Changers is definitely one for the books as like the original film from the 90’s this latest version shows it is more about being a team then playing the game. All 10 episodes delve deep into this as the “Don’t Bothers” take the ice through the inspiration of one boy and his mom after being cut from the Legendary Mighty Ducks. Each episode shows how becoming a team of misfits can actually work to their advantage as they all learn and grow together in ways that no one saw coming.
The ten-episode series now streaming on Disney + stars the original Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez), who though he owns the Ice Palace, he doesn’t want to have anything to do with hockey. Though through watching the struggles of the “Don’t Bothers”, he realizes that maybe he does still have a little love for hockey as he sees the true spirit of the ducks in a younger generation. Now it is up to him to push the team as they prove that there is more to hockey to fight for.
Additionally, the series also stars Gilmore Girls, Lauren Graham, as a strong-willed mother who is willing to do anything for her son, even couch a game she has no knowledge of how to even lead, but with the help of Bombay the two find their own way of bringing the team of misfits out of the dark and into the light.
The final episode of the season dropped Memorial Day week and no pun intended, it was a real game changer as at last the Don’t Bothers finally go head-to-head for the ultimate win and that is the coveted Mighty Ducks name. But the real question is do the underdog team truly have what it takes?
Each episode at 35 minutes, shows a unique inside into what a youth hockey team should be all about in modern day culture. It brings fun back to the game and allows kids just to be kids.
The whole season of Mighty Ducks Game Changers is currently streaming on Disney + with an active subscription. It’s definitely a show that one should miss as it brings back the true heart of the Mighty Ducks.
