“Megalopolis” REVIEW

“Is this society this is where we’re living, the only one that’s available to us. My plan is a city that people can dream about.”

Francis Ford Coppela’s epic film based on the Roman Catiline Conspiracy is leaving audiences contemplating what they just spent nearly 2 and a half hours watching. As a twist of the story, it is based out of America and follows a feud between Calilina and Cicero, and is told with a slight Shakespearean story telling method. For that reason, one has to pay particular attention or you’ll for sure be lost.

That being said, the actors did their best to recapture this story. Particular, Adam Driver as Cesar Catilina did an exceptional job. He definitely used his Kylo Ren charm and determination to captivate audiences in believing he was doing the right thing for everyone.

Additionally the film stars a long list of well known actors including Giancarlo Esposito as Mayor Cicero, Nathalie Emmanuel as his daughter and Catilina’s wife. That conflict is enough to drive the story to its epic conclusion. Add Shia LaBeouf, Aubrey Plaza and Laurence Fishburne to the mix and it rounds out the cast as they each add to the epic fable that does its ultimate best to be told on the big screen.

That being said, it may not be for all ages. The film is rated R for a reason as it does have a some gruesome bloody scenes as well as full on nudity. That being said, it is told in such a way that true critics of the spoken word will be entranced by. Taken after Shakespearean methods, its one that is very heavy in exposition, which isn’t a bad thing. It’ll just leave audiences either clinging on every word or else it may put one to sleep if exposition is not their forte. The choice is yours.

That being said, Megalopolis came out in theaters, September 28 and is currently playing in one near you. See it and experience and epic greek mythology tale with hopefully Oscar deserving performances.
