The movie of the summer that makes you think twice about going into the water is making a splash at the box office. Coming in just second to Barbie which reached 1 billion in its second week, Meg 2, brought in 30 thousand in its opening week.
The action packed film picks up right where the original left off, with the same stellar cast on an ocean research expedition. Their prime subject, a born in captivity megladon, living in the trench. All is harmless and peaceful until the trench is invaded by one of the largest megladons ever imaginable. Now it is a race of survival and research to study these creatures and get out alive.
The leader of the team, played by Jason Statham, is definitely the perfect fit for this job once again. The only difference is now we see him as a parental figure to the daughter he acquired from the first film. Not to mention that little girl is now a teenager. That being said, both Statham and Shuya Sophia Cai have a unique chemistry that goes beyond measure.
Similarly, there is a little comic relief, specificly by the Uncle (Jing Wu) who flawlessly goes from speaking english to chinese and back as he communicates with both Statham and Cai and even uses chinese as a diversion at one moment.
All in all, Meg 2 gives the original a run for its money, it gives everything the original gives, but with a slightly more elevated since of adventure and suspense. Not to mention, the writers decide to through a few classic prehistoric creatures in the mix. The film came out in theaters August 4 and is currently playing in one near you.
