“MaXXXine” REVIEW

“I will not accept a life I do not deserve.”

This is one line, told to her as a child by her father that even when taking the not so prestige jobs, she remembers to help her achieve her full potential. When Maxine finally gets the big break she was waiting for, she sees her life finally getting better. That is until the “night stalker” begins to take interest in her. Now it’s a race of survival while trying to create an epic horror film, that will have audiences on the edge of their seats.

Pearl’s Mia Goth takes a step further into the lime light as she as a sophisticated charm that is especially noticeable given the film being set in 1985. She is definitely an actress to be watching out for as she has everything a well rounded actor needs to succeed; charm and wit as well as being able to pack a punch when the time comes. She captures the audience’s every movement as the film, which is rather fast paced and definitely not as predictable as other horror films.

Additionally the film also stars well known actors including X’s Simon Prast as her “father” who has a surprise ending when it all is said and done. Also Mission Impossible‘s Michelle Monaghan, Ant Man‘s Bobby Cannavale, Mirror Mirror’s Lily Collin‘s and the infamous Kevin Bacon all play a supporting role in some way that lends aid and helps Goth shine in her performance.

All in all, MaXXXine will surprise you in a good way. Coming from an adult film turned horror genre, the R rating is well warranted. There is quite a bit of full nudity, sexual conduct and very harsh violence. That being said, it is a well thought out story line that will have audiences completely captivated from the first scene on.

The film came out in theaters July 3rd and is currently playing in one near you.
