When a young woman is reunited with a monster from her childhood, she must finally confront what she was feared.
Longlegs stars Nicolas Cage as the monster (longlegs) and all in all he does a great job of creating a beast that is just misunderstood. In a way, his performance resembles that of Heath Ledger’s outstanding performance as the Joker while using the same techniques that Cage displayed in Renfield. It is done in a way that one actually will be laughing more than running away in fear.
Similarly Independence Day‘s Maika Monroe does a good job as the FBI agent trying to hunt down Longlegs. It’s intriguing how in mystery format the use the length of time and location of the next kill to be able to find Longlegs and stop him once and for all. Monroe’s mannerisms and espressions truly cause us to be invested in her survival.
All in all at roughly an hour 41 minute runtime, Longlegs, is more of a suspense thriller than horror genre. With elements of gore, it is relatively tame more or less. Though that being said, it may not be for the faint at heart.
Longlegs came out in theaters July 12 and took number 4 at the box office opening weekend. See it in a theater near you as we get ready for the spooky season.
