There’s a new breed of superheroes as DC imagines the tale of Superman by adding a “what if” to the story. What if Superman was not alone when he came to Earth as a baby? Introducing Krypto the little white pup who serves more as a comfort animal to a wailing baby and ends up turning to crime fighting next to his best friend. The only problem is Krypto does not like to share and so when Lois Lane emerges as Superman’s love, Krypto immediately feels left out.
So what is Superman to do, why turn to the friendly animal shelter, and introducing the soon to be League of Superpets, but will Krypto be able to put aside his pride and devotion to Superman and realize that there is more to life then just fighting the villian.
At 1 hour 45 minute runtime, DC’s League of Superpets is surely a film for all ages. It explores possibilities that one may not have thought of in the Superman tale while focusing on a much deeper message as a whole. That is the message of what a pets true purpose is “unconditional love and devotion” which can be found even in a traditional shelter pet.
Of course the voice talents do nothing short of only enhancing the already intriguing story line. Those include Dwayne Johnson who captures the superpup of Krypto as well as shelter dog Ace (voiced by Kevin Hart). The two by themselves are enough to send both a heartfelt and comedic vibe to the fun loving tale. Add voices including John Krasinski as Superman, Keanu Reeves as Batman, Olivia Wilde as Lois Lane and Kate McKinnon as Lulu and what you have is an action packed comedy that will certainly have audiences laughing, crying and on the edge of their seats anticipating what will happen next.
All in all, DC’s League of Superpets is another hit for the box office as there is no surprise as it took number one opening weekend with over 23 million. The film came out Friday July 29th and is a great for families looking to escape the heat and just watch a good ole family friendly comedy. See it in theaters, you won’t regret it.
