The first feel good holiday film of the season is giving new meaning to the song that one has been singing for years.
Universal’s Last Christmas stars Emilia Clarke, a witty store “elf” working in a year round Christmas store, though she has recently been distracted with not having the “right heart”. As the Christmas season approaches, she finds herself smitten by an attractive young man named Tom (Henry Golding), as they instantly discover a connection of the heart as she learns once more who she is and what she is meant to do with her life.
The film, without giving away the ending, does play homage to the 1984 song, by Wham “Last Christmas” by dissecting the lyrics and adding a little surprise to what it means to give someone a heart and yet the audience has no idea until the last minute of what is going on until the right moment. The director does a great job of playing with flashback from the early scenes to further illustrate this.
Romantic, fun and comedic at the right moment, Last Christmas is the perfect feel good movie to get everyone ready for the holiday season. Furthermore, the ending will leave you not so much as heartbroken but hopeful for the future all because of one random act of kindness.
Last Christmas came out November 8, 2019 and is currently playing in a theater near you.
