Dennis Quaid is the Intruder in the latest suspense film that bringing new meaning to “letting go”.
When a young man at the height of his career decides to buy a spacious mansion in the countryside for his wife whose dream lies in the country, the man whom sells it has a hard time of letting go. Now it is up to them to figure out how to save themselves from the psycho who seems to be watching them at every moment while inside the house.
The Intruder stars Meagan Good and Michael Ealy as they come together again from their previous film, Think Like a Man. The chemistry between the two is dynamic as one can definitely see that they are comfortable enough with each other. There is both comedic timing though not nearly what would have been in their previous film. That being said, there’s enough good natured jokes to entertain rather than humiliate.
Also, the two have a bond of protection, though in the beginning of the film when they first move into the house the slight estranged feeling plays into Good’s willingness to trust Charlie Pecke (Quaid) when her husband isn’t around. That however changes as things happen around the house that prompts Ealy to further investigate the man that won’t go away.
Quaid, does a fantastic job in a role that he’s never played that I can remember. From his first scene in the woods by the house, he truly captures that of a man with a dark past and secret. His facial expressions say it all to the fact that he’s not going anywhere, though his dialogue says a different story. He also has a way of quickly sending chills down your spine, which the director, Deon Taylor (Traffik) did a great job as well with playing with different camera angles to allude to the fact that someone was watching, even when you don’t see anyone. Taylor uses the same techniques that one saw in his previous film, Traffik, with Priscilla Quintana, in order to capture the suspense and make the audience watching want the couple to get Quaid in the end.
Ultimately, at 103 minute runtime, The Intruder is an intense, suspense film that will have you on the edge of your seats as you question, who your neighbors really are. Make sure you lock all your doors, because The Intruder is in theaters as of May 3, 2019. You definitely don’t want to miss out on Quaid’s stellar performance. It’ll have everyone yelling at the end, “Get him” but the question is do they get him in time? For that answer, see the film now only in theaters.
