New emotions are added as Riley finally reaches adolescent and the ever popular “Puberty”, which of course was hinted at the end of the First film. Of course those new emotions include Embarassment, Envy, Ennui, and the ever common anxiety. There’s even a hint of Nostagia thrown in as anxiety teases it’s not yet time.
Inside Out 2 brings back familiar voices including Amy Poehler reprising Joy, Lewis Black reprising Anger and Phyllis Smith reprising sadness. There also is a bit of a cast change as Tony Hale replaces Bill Hader as fear and Liza Lipira replaces Mindy Kaling as Disgust. Aside from that, addition voices include Ayo Edbiri as Envy, Adele Exarchopoulos as Ennui, Paul Walter Hauser as Embarrassment, and Maya Hawke as Anxiety. In a whole, the voices used to portray the emotions, deeply capture the heart of each emotion. We know as we hear them even without know what they are first off. We can hear the emotion in their voice.
All in all, Inside Out 2 does a good job of simulating what a teenager goes through both on the inside and on the outside. Riley experiences new firsts including graduation, summer camp and the revelation of she and her friends not being together for the first time ever. It’s certainly a roller coaster of a tale that will keep you glued to the screen from the first moment on.
Inside Out 2 is a movie truly for the whole family. Children will be enchanted by the colors and new characters on screen creating a very believable story. Adults will find comfort in the easter eggs hidden deep inside. It will honestly cause one to want to see it again and again.
Inside Out 2 came out in theaters June 14 and is currently playing in one near you.
