“Horizon: An American Saga: Ch. 1” REVIEW

Kevin Costner’s latest war biopic set in the 1800’s is struggling to make number 3 at the box office.

Horizon: An American Saga: Ch 1 follows a very loose story about the move to the west in the 1800’s by white settlers which started the colonization as well as the eventually mutilation of nearly an entire story. Though the film doesn’t give credit to it being completely factual, there are a lot of references that history buffs will take heart in. It does captivate the audience in that even at 3 hour run time, honestly the movie has a very fast pace to it all. Different story lines collide so at one point one has to stop and see just which one is playing out at any given moment.

The film of course stars Kevin Costner as well as Sam Worthington, Danny Huston, Sienna Miller and even a couple scenes with Costner’s son Hayes. Additionally there are also a number of Native American actors who do a fantastic job of bringing this important historical story to life on the big screen.

Of course, the film leaves up on a bit of a climax which will be answered when Chapter 2 hits the big screen in August. Until now, Chapter 1, which came out just a few days before July 4th, is currently playing in a theater near you. Just keep in mind it is rated R and thus will have some harsh violent scenes and a slight bit of sexual conduct that may be too intense to a younger audience. That being said, it is an important piece of our history that we must remember if nothing else so we don’t repeat it.

Watch the trailer for Chapter 2 to get ready for the conclusion coming in August.
