“Harold & The Purple Crayon” REVIEW

“With the crayon, anything is possible.”

The latest children’s book turned motion picture film is causing audiences to remember the power of their imagination. Based on the book by Crockett Johnson, “Harold and the Purple Crayon” explores what happens when he steps off the page of the book and into the real world. It’s all in a search for Harold’s “old man”; the one who has been talking to him all his life. Now there is no voice and Harold is determined to find out why.

At an hour and a half run time, Harold and the Purple Crayon will bring old fans and new together as they discover the magic within. Played by Zachary Levi, who does an exceptional job of capturing that true child charm, similar to the same way he did in Shazam. He uses his innocence to drive the audiences interest in a pure thing as imagination.

Additionally children will marvel at the fun colors and the idea that anything is possible if you just believe. In a world where imagination is disappearing, it is refreshing to see a book/movie highlight just how important such a thing is.

Likewise the film also stars Zooey Deschanel, Lil Rel Howery and Tanya Reynolds, all of whom work together with Levi to fully convince the viewers and even themselves that this is real.

The film came out in theaters August 2, 2024 and is currently showing in one near you.
