With Halloween season looking different due to COVID-19 and the events being non existent, I’ve decided this season, rather than going to invisible events, why not have a daily movie review on popular Halloween films and TV specials streaming on the various networks. That being said, expect a daily posting of the film or TV Series recommended to get one into the season while staying safe and socially distancing the way we should be. Furthermore, my list will feature films like Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream, or Halloween. Rather it will include films that are considered family friendly so that one can truly enjoy the films with all ages in their household.
The first film I’d like to highlight comes specifically from Disney Plus. It is the 1993 film, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. This film is a must see and one of the most popular films that most are familiar with. The film stars Chris Sarandon as the Pumpkin Jack, who is tired of the mundane life with the same Holiday every year. Sadly, he stumbles on the idea that there are other holidays when he falls through Christmas town’s door and instantly gets infatuated with the idea of Christmas. Now it is his mission to take over Christmas in his own way, but will he really be able to do so or will he destroy his holiday and Christmas in the process.
The film also includes voice stars including Catherine O’Hara as Sally, Ken Page as Oogie Boogie and Paul Reubens as Locke to name a few, and Danny Elfman as the singing voice of Jack Skelton.
The film was created using a technique called stop animation, which is achieved one frame at a time and done beautifully as it won awards for Best original score for the 1994 Oscars and Best kids animated film for the Kid’s Choice awards.
Furthermore, it’s the one film which has its own ride at Disneyland as every year the Haunted Mansion is transformed into the Nightmare of Christmas themed ride.
Nightmare Before Christmas is currently streaming with paid subscription on Disney Plus as well as on Freeform.
