Godzilla: King of the Monsters: REVIEW

The King of the Monsters meets his match in the latest blockbuster that has audiences marveling over the spectacular imagery of the 17 titans being unleashed on the big screen in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

The film stars “Early Edition” star Kyle M. Chandler as Mark Russell, a grief stricken man, desperate to find his missing wife and daughter after their son is killed due to extreme forces of nature.  Little to his surprise, his wife, Dr. Emma Russell (played by Vera Farmiga) is working with the Monarch, a crypto zoological agency, set on restoring the natural order of things  by setting the titans free.  That all works fine until the alien titan, King Ghidorah is released with a mission of destroying all of humanity and everything in between.  Now it’s up to Godzilla to come to the rescue for the sake of the humans and the Earth they all live on.

At two hour 10 minute runtime, Godzilla: King of the Monsters is packed with adventure, and suspense from the first moment on to the last and the acting is just as spot on as the cgi effects used to bring to life some of the most terrifying monsters one has ever seen.

Specifically, the character of Emma Russell, goes through some big character arcs as Farmiga goes from a woman with one mission to protect her daughter as well as save some of these most beautiful creatures, being held captive in the most remote locations to turning to being on the side of humanity when she realizes the true intentions of the company she is working with.  That being said, one might say, there is an additional element similar to that of ET, especially when Famiga and her daughter, (played by Stranger Things star, Millie Bobby Brown) first interact with the Mothara, the most beautiful Queen of the monsters.

Similarly, the young actress, playing Madison, has a unique facial expression when working with her adult actors.  She does an exceptional job of capturing the feeling of a child in the midst of her parents separation, which in the end finds her switching sides as her mothers true motives come clear way before she changes her stance.  Her acting will have one wondering just what will happen next to the young actress and her parents in a fight for their lives against the titans of the sea.

Godzilla: king of the Monsters came out in theaters May 31, 2019 and is currently playing in a theater near you.
