“Furiosa” Movie Review

Anya Taylor Joy pulls out all her Last Night in SoHo moves as she delivers the performance of a lifetime in the latest Mad Max Saga. Joy seriously does an exceptional job of portraying a character that Charlize Theron perfected. The resemblance is uncanny as we learn everything that made Furiosa she was when she met Mad Max. One can definitely see why the director cast Joy as Theron’s predecessor.

Said to be a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, this latest film shows just how Furiosa got to be where she was as renegade warrior for the baddest people in the land. The film as a whole, holds nothing back, with everything that original film held strong to. It contains awesome fight scenes with a bit of very graphic scenes that would make very squeamish audiences uncomfortable.

The film follows the life of Furiosa as she is taken captive as a young girl, turn away from her mother and sisters who she loves. We see the struggle as she is introduced to the life of breeder which inevitably turns into fighting for her life when she learns quickly to rescue herself. It’s not enough though as throughout the film she makes it her life mission to rescue those she left behind.

Furiosa also stars Chris Hemsworth as the tyrant Dr. Dimentus, who Furiosa inevitably must battle for her freedom and ultimately her life. Hemsworth, additionally pulls out all his Thor muscles to provide a similarly unique performance that does his character ample justice.

At 2 hour 25 minute runtime, Furiosa will have audiences on the edge of their seats with anticipation as questions are answered and strings are tied up. Though the movie is rated “R”, one might say it’s a mild version. With no real bad language, the only thing that is view discretion is the graphic imagery that is portrayed on the big screen. If you know the franchise, it’s nothing new as far as what to expect. That being said, the film which comes out in theaters officially Memorial day weekend is currently playing in a theater near you. See it, and be ready for the beginning of the end.
