The story of Arthur Fleck continues. Picking up after the first Joker with Arthur now in prison for the murders that Joker committed. Here we see him meet Harley Quinn, a woman nearly as insane as Joker himself. The film follows the tragic love story told in a unique musical way that will have audiences either intrigued or that of annoyed by the prolonged musical numbers.
That being said, the music definitely lightens the mood and makes us see Joker in an entirely new light. It gives hope to adding music as a means of everything being okay.
Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role of the infamous Joker and shows a new sensitive side. The name of Joker 2: Folie a Deux, paints an intriguing story of a man trying to live two lives rather than one as Phoenix excels in going between Arthur Fleck and the insanity of Joker. Additionally, as the music begins, we are shown that Phoenix indeed can sing, though he seems hesitant to embrace the music.
Lady Gaga, as Harley Quinn creates the musical scene that Phoenix eventually embraces as he must face the fact that he is not just two people, but Joker above all. No amount of acting can hide that and Pheonix does a great job of doing that on the big screen.
Ultimately at 2 hours and 18 minutes, Joker: Folie a Deux came out in theaters October 4th and is currently showing in one near you. Though it didn’t do well in the box office, it is still highly recommended for anyone who wants to see Joker in a whole new light and with iconic musical acts to go with it.
