“Firing Squad” REVIEW

The latest Christian movie set in a third world country is bringing hope to all who watch it on the big screen.

Starring God’s Not Dead’s Kevin Sorbo, who also produced The Firing Squad, this film shows the painful truth of how the harshest of criminals on death row are ultimately sentenced to death, aka via firing squad. The hope of the matter is how most of these criminals find their faith in a truly hopeless situation. Sorbo, does a fantastic job of showing peace that those criminals ultimately felt at the end of those days.

Similarly, the film also star Snow Dog’s Cuba Gooding Jr. who equally does an awesome job of portraying that same piece along side James Barrington, the third Criminal, come to faith in the Indonesian Prison. As a relative new actor, Barrington’s level of emotion and determination is equally as strong as that of his more experience prisoner counterparts.

All in all, The Firing Squad, which came out in theaters Aug 1, is a great movie of hope, which is something we all know. It ultimately contains a good balance of action, drama and yes, even a bit of singing by Gooding Jr. himself. Furthermore, it shows the power the prayer groups having when visiting prisons where the most challenging of criminals are housed.

The Firing Squad is currently playing for a limited time in limited theaters near you. If you get a chance, you should definitely see it and make sure to stay for the ending post credit scene that will have you cheering for all those still left and listening for the ultimate message of hope.
