Good evening. I’m Mr. Roarke, ambassador to your deepest desires. Let me officially welcome you to Fantasy Island.
For everyone that comes Fantasy Island this is true but with one catch, each fantasy must be lived out to the very end, at all costs. This is where the trouble starts for our guest.
Based on a TV Show of the same name from the late 70’s , comes the retelling of Fantasy Island for a new generation. Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island stars Michael Pena as the mysterious Mr. Roarke (who was previously played by Ricardo Montalban). Overall Pena does an exceptional job of welcoming host with a deep secret, one that is discovered by one of the willing guests.
And the guests even have a secret of their own, one that is only discovered by Gwen Olsen (Maggie Q) when she convinces Mr. Roarke to give her a second fantasy. In that she realizes she has more in common with the other guests then she thought. In a way, the film kind of reminds one of another movie that came out in 20O4 called Crash, which is about strangers who intersect. The only difference is that this is all a fantasy, but whose fantasy is it really.
At an hour forty nine minute run time, Fantasy Island is a horror movie of what could happen if our deepest fantasies come true. It makes us wonder is it really worth it.
Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island came out in theaters February 14, 2020 and is still playing in one near you. See it before its too late.
