“Ezra” REVIEW

The Latest Bleecker Street movie is taking a close look into what nearly every parent with a child with Autism go through. It plays with the concept of letting autistic children live in this world, not hidden away in a special School.

Ezra stars Antman’s Bobby Cannaval, Peter Rabbit‘s Rose Byrne and About My Father‘s Robert Deniro as three very worldly figures who figure out the right way to deal with an autistic child. When the school recommends a special education to handle the child, each individual has a different view point. Now it’s a fight to figure out the best solution without infringing on each other’s rights.

One other actor to point out is the young boy who plays Ezra. In his debut acting role, William A Fitzgerald does an exceptional job portraying the emotion that an autistic child goes through in nearly all situations. Equally, we see growth as Cannaval goes on a journey to figure out just how to help his son as his biggest fan to his stand up comedy life. It’s the type of growth that is sure to not leave a dry eye in the theater.

In a whole, Ezra is a film that will most certainly have you laughing, crying and fully understanding the whole autism spectrum disorder. That being said, the R rating is largely due to the stand up comedy points of view. A bit of language and drug references might cause a bit viewer discretion to those with younger viewers. Anyone who knows about the Autism Spectrum disorder is encouraged as it help many understand the disorder to its full.

Ezra came out in theaters to a Thursday crowd on May 30th and is currently playing in limited theaters near you. See it before it’s too late.
