Sheltered by her overprotective parents, Ember has known nothing but fire town and the idea that “elements don’t mix”. But when a hunky “water guy” name Wade invades their pipes after one of Ember’s outbursts, Ember has different feelings, that is are other elements really that bad.
Like Pixar’s other animated film, Inside Out, Elemental explores far more than just the obvious of different elements. It covers an even deeper message, one that all immigrants face coming to a new world. The way the writer deeply showed all aspect of the immigrant life including going through customs and having to adjust to a not so familiar world especially when your name is so foreign as well as the dreams that all immigrants have especially for the future. It’s a powerful display of emotion that will leave adults thinking about a bigger picture.
Children alike will marvel over the amazing colors and detail that each element has as it can be used as a teaching aspect both of the physical elements as well as the message of not judging by appearance that children out to know.
Similarly, the film also resembled that of a Romeo And Juliet, forbidden romance as Ember willingly falls for that of Wade who one might say is out of her element. The deeper question; can we all live out of our element in order to live as we are meant to be.
Elemental stars a list of talent, not well known, including Leah Lewis as Ember and Mamoudou Athie as Wade. What it lacked in familiar voice talents, it certainly made up for in detailed, in depth storyline. The film sparked theaters June 16th and is currently playing in one near you. See it for a family friendly fun movie for all ages.
